Midweek Magnolias - #145 Anything but a Card

Happy Hump Day, Friends!

The Midweek Magnolias are back with a new challenge. This fortnight our theme is…

“Anything but a Card”

Join us for the challenge following the theme and our rules and you could have a chance to win a surprise from Magnolia Sweden.

For this challenge, I made my very first explosion box. A word of caution...this post is photo heavy.

I’ve always wanted to create an explosion box so I did a bit of searching on Google and Pinterest for inspiration and I found loads of gorgeous boxes. I wanted to be original so I decided to look through my stash of Magnolia dies, of which I have hundreds mind you, to create a unique project.

My box top features “Tilda with Armful of Flowers” from the Seaside collection. All of the designer papers I used for the project are Maja Designs, Summer Crush collection paired with Bazzill cardstock.

Here is the box open. I created a house warming box using my Magnolia Big House, Fence and Tree DooHickey dies. I cut the big house twice and glued them together to make a large 3D House. I used my EK scallop border punch to create my roof shingles. Then I cut the fence twice and shortened it for a smaller scale, attached them together and made a gate. I also cut the trees twice and put a short headpin wire between the trunk and tree for durability then hot glued it to the box.

I also colored Bee Tilda from the Spring Fever collection and Sunbathe Tilda from the Seaside collection.

Here’s a close up of Bee Tilda.

And a close up of Sunbathe Tilda.

Here is a close up of my envelope die cut from the Magnolia Vintage Box Kit. The envelope has a magnet closure with “Home Sweet Home” sentiment on the outside. I also cut a Tim Holtz House border for the bottom of the box flap.

The envelope opens to “Congrats on your new home” sentiment on the inside.

This flap has some Magnolia Key die cuts.

Here is a close up of the House. I had lots of fun creating this project.

I hope I’ve inspired you to join us for the challenge. Have a great week.

Magnolia-licious - Summer Blog Hop

Hello Magnolia, Fans!

Today we are hosting a Summer Blog Hop with 2 chances to win $20 shopping dollars from Magnolia-licious.

If you arrived here from Katie's blog then you are on the right hop path. If you need to start from the beginning go to the Magnolia-licious Challenge Blog here.

For my project, I created a summer beach themed photo frame featuring “Bikini Tilda” from the Sea Breeze collection. I created my frame with multi layers of thick chipboard then covered it with Maja Designs pattern paper. I found lots of shells, fish net, sand and mini rope at Michaels to create the beach elements of my frame.

I fussy cut Tilda out along with a small piece of canvas fabric for a simple beach towel. My palm tree is a layered die cut from La-La-Land Crafts. I also put a small bit of sand in a Tim Holtz mini vial for a tiny message in a bottle. To finish it off I put a photo of a trip that hubby and I took to the British Virgin Islands, Bitter End Yacht Club. What a fabulous place!

Here is a close up of Tilda colored with Copics.

OK, now for the fun HOP part…you have 2 chances to win $20 Shopping Dollars from the Magnolia-licious store.

1.  Each member of the design team has added pictures of a beach ball to their main photo in their post. All you need to do is find the Beach Balls in each DT post. Count them all and send the total to me at cathylee.co@gmail.com with “Beach Ball Scavenger Hunt” in the subject line. You will be entered in a random draw of correct responses I receive. For a sneak peek of the beach ball stop over at the Magnolia-licious Challenge blog.
2.  Enter a project (anything but a card) in the Hop challenge and you will have a chance to win if your project is the random winner of all entries received by August 22.

Also, you must do the following to qualify for a chance to win either prize:

Your next stop on the hop is our creatively talented GDT…

If you get lost, just return to the Challenge Blog for the links to the DT line-up. Thanks for following us on a Summer Blog Hop adventure.
